There is also a Sardinian among the three environmentalists arrested , and released today, for the blitz against the facade of Palazzo Madama, smeared with red paint.
The judge of the Rome court validated the arrests of the activists Alessandro Sulis, Davide Nensi and Laura Paracini, but ordered their release. The trial for the three, accused of aggravated damage, has been set for May 12th . The prosecutor had requested the measure of the residence obligation.
The Senate will bring a civil action for the damages , as announced by President Ignazio La Russa during the Presidency Council convened ad hoc in the afternoon: «I have decided, with the almost unanimous concurrence of the Presidency office, even if with some hint of hesitation wall of a vice president, to form a civil action in the future against the perpetrators of this gesture – said La Russa -. We are not interested in regulatory changes, we do not want exemplary punishments, aggravations of sentences or specific crimes. If anything within the discretion of the magistrates, we hope for an attitude aware of the importance of institutional buildings . But it is our right to be able to bring a civil action to request compensation for material and moral damages".
THE BLITZ – Just before 8 o'clock yesterday, with the door still closed and using fire extinguishers, the activists threw paint against the door and windows of the first floor of the Senate to denounce "despair" for the "eco-climate collapse" in progress and the "indifference of the political world in the face of what promises to be the greatest genocide in the history of humanity" . Thus the latest generation environmentalists - the same ones who in recent weeks have smeared works of art in museums or blocked traffic to ask for more attention to the climate and the environment - have claimed responsibility for the blitz.
The condemnation was unanimous , including that expressed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for a gesture she defined as "outrageous, incompatible with any civil protest".
While the Palace is being cleaned up, the security plan is triggered . In addition to more agents in the Parliament area - even in civilian clothes, promised by the Viminale - the creation of a "corridor" is being considered to filter those arriving at the main entrance (in Piazza Madama) and control them better : the building that houses the second office of the State is one of the few, among the institutional ones, that does not have a blocked access.
