"When there are people who demonstrate to ask for justice and truth for my son, they must not make a mess or do bad things. Please, demonstrate calmly, in which you just walk, peacefully ."
Yehia Elgaml, Ramy's father , said this while commenting on yesterday's clashes in the marches organized in Rome and Bologna in memory of the 19-year-old who died last November 24 on a scooter during a chase with the carabinieri in Milan.
The man then expressed "confidence" in the Italian Republic and in President Sergio Mattarella: "We live under his umbrella, not only Italians, but also immigrants and foreigners," he said.
Reaffirming his love for Italy, Yehia Elgaml also recalled that "there are some wrong carabinieri, but the others are good. I have faith in good carabinieri, not in the wrong ones" .
Then he concluded, reiterating the appeal against violence: "Do not make trouble against the police, because the police defend security throughout Italy. When there are young people who demonstrate for Ramy's justice, make them only peaceful. Do not make trouble, do not do anything. This is the message".
Aly Harhash, a representative of the Egyptian community in Milan, who was present at Ramy's father's meeting with journalists, stressed that "we have nothing to do with what happened in Rome and Bologna. However, the authorities should also talk to these people to find out where this anger comes from." The Carabinieri, he added, "should offer their condolences to the family. Only out of humanity. He is a father who has lost a son, the Carabinieri should be close to him."
