Milan prosecutor Paolo Storari has ordered an emergency judicial review of Foodinho, the delivery company of the Spanish giant Glovo, for gangmastering. According to the investigations, the delivery drivers, 40,000 employees throughout Italy, were paid wages "below the poverty line," thus amounting to labor exploitation. A preliminary investigations judge will then have to rule on the judicial review, which would involve the appointment of a judicial administrator for the food delivery company, following today's emergency order from the Milan prosecutor's office, which has conducted similar investigations into other giants, including logistics companies, for labor exploitation.

In the investigation, conducted by the Carabinieri Labor Inspectorate, Spaniard Pierre Miquel Oscar, director of Foodinho (the company is also under investigation), is under investigation for gangmastering. As sole director, prosecutor Storari writes, "he employed labor in exploitative conditions and took advantage of the workers' need."

Specifically, the decree states, "it paid riders in need operating in the Milan area and nationwide (approximately 2,000 and 40,000 workers, respectively), a salary that in some cases was up to 76.95% below the poverty line and up to 81.62% below the collective bargaining agreement." These sums, given the type and quantity of work performed, do not guarantee riders a "free and dignified existence" and are "contrary" to the collective agreements signed by the trade unions.
