A 35-year-old Italian man has been in custody since 4 in the night on charges of attempted premeditated murder against psychiatrist Barbara Capovani , the doctor attacked on Friday afternoon in front of the Santa Chiara hospital in Pisa and hospitalized at the end of life.

The detention was carried out by the police and ordered by the Pisa prosecutor's office, following investigations conducted by the mobile team.

The man arrested is called Gianluca Paul Seung, a former patient of the victim, already known to the police for his violent behavior and for a series of letters delivered to various entities in Versilia, in which he denounced alleged conspiracies against him. In the past he had received several via papers from the provinces of Lucca, Prato and recently also from Pisa. He had recently been arrested for an assault in court in Lucca .

He resisted when the policemen of the Pisa mobile team went to pick him up at home. The agents broke down the door and he tried to escape arrest using a pepper spray before being permanently immobilized. In the house he also had a crossbow with a bolt.

The woman "is in extremely critical conditions", the Pisan health authorities say.
