A 46-year-old soldier from Cagliari, Matteo Ambu, lost his life in a tragic accident this morning in Jesolo, near Venice, according to local Veneto press.

The tragedy occurred around 6 a.m. on Via Roma Destra, while the man—a resident of Cavallino Treporti—was driving to work.

A plane tree collapsed onto the roof of the vehicle, crushing the soldier and leaving him no chance of escape. The 46-year-old died instantly. According to another reconstruction, however, Ambu swerved suddenly to avoid the tree, losing control of the vehicle and crashing into another tree on the opposite side of the road.

Despite the immediate intervention of emergency responders, including firefighters, there was nothing that could be done for the 46-year-old. The Jesolo Carabinieri also responded to the scene, and an investigation is ongoing.
