A 55 - year - old psychiatrist is in critical condition , attacked with bars yesterday afternoon in Pisa by a man who is still wanted by the police .

The woman, Barbara Capovani , is in charge of the adult mental health and SPDC functional unit of the Santa Chiara hospital. Yesterday around 18.30 a man dressed in black who then managed to escape brutally attacked her outside building 3 of the hospital, repeatedly hitting her on the head with a bar before leaving her helpless in a pool of blood and causing her to lose own tracks .

A single witness witnessed the episode, who saw the scene summarily: " A man dressed in black with a cap and mask waited for the doctor at the exit of the building that houses Psychiatry, beat her and ran away ".

The psychiatrist was immediately hospitalized in serious condition and with a reserved prognosis : "The patient's conditions remain critical, despite the surgical and anesthesiological-resuscitation procedures immediately implemented in the Pisan university hospital which stabilized the picture, which remains serious » , reads a statement released today by the North West Tuscany ASL and the Pisan Aou. “The prognosis – they add – is confidential and the next update on his clinical conditions will be in 24 hours”.

At the same time the manhunt has started , the investigators are keeping the investigations confidential and are making use of the video surveillance cameras in the area.

"A very serious act that pains us", comments the president of the National Federation of Orders of Surgeons and Dentists, Filippo Anelli .
