Giuseppe Scaduto, 78, known as Pino, considered the boss of the Bagheria (Palermo) mafia district, has died. He was in prison under 41 bis in Cagliari.
Scaduto was arrested as part of the operation called "Perseo" in 2008. In the past he was also convicted for receiving stolen goods, production and trafficking of narcotics.
In 2012 he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for mafia association and extortion. In October 2017 he was arrested again for aggravated extortion in competition and for this crime sentenced, in 2019, by the Court of Appeal of Palermo to 10 years in prison. The 2017 order reported the order that the boss would have given to kill his daughter "guilty" of having had a relationship with a carabiniere who then, also thanks to the confidences received from the girl, would have arrested the godfather in 2008.
On the reconstruction, which has never been contested in criminal proceedings, Scaduto during questioning before the investigating judge clearly denied having ever known about the relationship and revealed that he had not had any relationship with his daughter for years.
In September 2021, while serving his sentence, he was reached by a further precautionary custody order for mafia association, extortion and aggravated robbery.
In 2022, the preventive measures section of the Court of Palermo confiscated assets worth one and a half million euros, including a company that managed hotel facilities, construction companies, land, three homes, two rural buildings, three warehouses in Bagheria and ten bank accounts.
