In Palermo the alarm goes off due to the high concentrations of dioxins in the air.

After the fire that affected the Bellolampo landfill, ARPA detected the presence of the substance in the area. The site has been burning for days. And with the flames, the poisons contained in the waste that have been lying on the site for some time evaporate. "The determination of dioxins in the air sampled near Inserra from 10pm on 24 July to 10pm the following day returned a concentration of 939 TE fg/m3", reads the agency's website. And the numbers would be well beyond the permitted threshold.

«The results - the technicians say - reflect the formation of dioxins and furans and their presence in ambient air, which is a fact to be observed. The concentration values found are indicative of the presence of a local emission source"
