Yet another tragedy at work, this time in the province of Rovigo. A worker died after being crushed by a railway carriage.

Paolo Merlin, 61, from Stanghella, in the Padua area, was part of a team with three other colleagues specializing in the maneuvering of railway vehicles. The company had contracted the handling of freight wagons from a company operating in Loreo.

The four workers were on five wagons loaded with fertilizers which, moved by a pressure system, were pushed towards the inside of the shed. Before the entrance, all the workers had to get off the wagons and walk to the entrance of the structure to take care of the emptying of the compost for fertilization. But it is not clear what happened, the carabinieri are investigating: it could have been a human error. For example, the victim may not have been able to get off in time or has slipped falling on the rails and being run over by the vehicle.

The 61-year-old sustained devastating injuries to his legs and face, and died instantly. Colleagues immediately raised the alarm. The Spisal of the Polesana Ulss5 and the military arrived on the spot and, having informed the judicial authority, seized the company area, the shed and the railway wagons.
