24 years after the Novi Ligure crime, Omar Favaro is back on trial. This time he has to defend himself against charges of mistreatment in the family.
The man, now 41, is accused of sexual violence and mistreatment in the family. Physical and psychological violence against his wife and daughter. According to the accusation, beatings, insults ("You're anorexic", "you're disgusting") and repeated threats, including death threats ("I'll disfigure you with acid", "I'll put you in a wheelchair"). There are about twenty episodes, all dating back to the period between 2019 and 2021.
The investigation began after the woman's complaint. The two met ten years ago on social media, began dating, got married and had a daughter. A seemingly happy union, which over time deteriorated, causing the relationship to degenerate into a series of acts of violence and humiliation. The woman called the police to her home four times, but then always downplayed the incident: "Normal family arguments." In 2021, she ran away and then reported him.
Yesterday in Ivrea, at the end of a delicate investigation, the case came before the preliminary hearing judge. The hearing lasted just over fifteen minutes and did not go into the merits of the charges; the preliminary hearing judge granted a postponement to allow the parties to reach a compensation agreement.
Omar is assisted by Lorenzo Repetti and Vittorio Gatti, the same lawyers who assisted him at the time of the Novi Ligure massacre. In 2001 Favaro was 17 years old and with his girlfriend Erika De Nardo, also a minor, they killed with unheard of ferocity (100 stab wounds) her mother and her little brother.
