Maxi blitz against the mafia in Sicily.

As part of the "Medusa operation", from the early hours of this morning the carabinieri carried out a precautionary custody order - issued by the Gip of Caltanissetta, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate - against over fifty people considered affiliated to the Sanfilippo di Mazzarino clan, attributable to the Gelese stidda.

The criminal organization had ramifications throughout the national territory and in particular in the Milan area.

The suspects are accused, for various reasons, of mafia association, murder, extortion, drug trafficking and possession of weapons, crimes aggravated by the mafia method.

As part of the investigation, which lasted a total of four years, the investigators also shed light on two murders carried out with the "white shotgun" method (ie with the concealment of the victim's corpse).

The two crimes date back to 1984 and 1991.
