He decided to kill his entire family because he could not tolerate the idea that his wife had decided to leave him .

This is the motive for the madness of Alessandro Maja , the 57-year-old who yesterday at 7 am in the villa of Samarate, in the province of Varese , grabbed a hammer and massacred his wife Stefania Pivetta , 56, and daughter Giulia aged 16. years . He did not spare his eldest son , 23, who is still alive but in very serious condition .

Maja, after refusing to speak to the investigators from the hospital bed, where he is hospitalized for self-harm following the crime, was arrested on charges of aggravated double murder and attempted murder .

THE RECONSTRUCTION - According to what was reconstructed by the carabinieri of the Varese Provincial Command, the 57-year-old first hit his wife Stefania , who was resting on the sofa in the room, two violent and sharp blows to the head that left her no way out. Then he went to his daughter Giulia 's room, hitting her too with the same ferocity. Finally, he lashed out at the 23-year- old , who in the meantime woke up and started screaming , asking for help, hoping someone would hear him. A neighbor heard those screams and called 112.

Meanwhile, two other neighbors ran to the door of the Maja house, where they found the killer who, covered in blood, said: "I killed them all." Carabinieri and several ambulances rushed to the scene, but there was nothing to do for mother and daughter. "In so many years of work I have never seen such a gruesome scene," confessed one of the investigators. The helicopter rescue, arrived from the Varese hospital, transported the 23-year-old dying away with a very serious head injury, while his father was treated at the hospital in Busto Arsizio after, according to him, a suicide attempt .

Stefania Pivetta, according to what emerged, had recently turned to a lawyer to start the separation procedures . "I want to dedicate my Valentine's Day to women who died at the hands of a man believing in love", the prophetic words that she herself had published on Facebook on the day of the feast of lovers.
