Arrested yesterday in Sardinia , in his home in Carloforte , and then transferred to the Cagliari prison, first officer Lorenzo Repetto (defended by the lawyer Pasquale Tonani), part of the crew of the container ship Jolly Nero which, on 7 May 2013, is said to have hit and caused the collapse of the Pilots' Tower at the Port of Genoa . Repetto was definitively sentenced to 5 years for the collapse.

For the captain of the boat Roberto Paoloni, sentenced to 7 years, the decision of the Surveillance Court and the General Prosecutor's Office is awaited on the requests presented by his lawyers, the lawyers Romano Raimondo and Mario Iavicoli, to serve the sentence under house arrest for the advanced age and serious health reasons.

In recent days the Court of Cassation had rejected the appeals of the state attorney's office, the civil parties and the defenders and the sentences became final. The chief engineer Franco Giammoro (defended by the lawyer Paolo Costa) was instead sentenced to 4 years and will be able to ask for probation.

THE FACTS – It was the evening of 7 May 2013 when the Port Authority structure was demolished by the container ship Jolly Nero during the maneuver to leave the port of Genoa. Nine people lost their lives.

On board the cargo, among others, the commander Roberto Paoloni, the first officer Lorenzo Repetto and the chief engineer Franco Giammoro.

There are two lines of investigation, the first relating to the vessel itself. The second, however, concerns the location of the Tower. In recent months, the appeals court acquitted all the defendants in this second trial, first of all the former admiral Felicio Angrisano.

The public prosecutor Walter Cotugno instead closed the investigations for 15 people for the alleged irregular certificates on the ships. According to the prosecutor's office, the RINA inspectors and some of the port authorities turned a blind eye to the irregularities found on the ships while allowing them to navigate.
