The Marò Massimiliano Latorre sues the state and asks for a maxi-millionaire compensation for having him return to India where he risked the death penalty .

This was revealed by the Fatto Quotidiano: the lieutenant - who remained in prison in Kerala for 106 days together with his colleague Salvatore Girone - asks for compensation for not having been able to make a career , start a family and for various other reasons.

Defending the military, still in the Navy, are the lawyers Fabio Anselmo, former lawyer of the Cucchi family, and Silvia Galeone. For the moment, the Fatto Quotidiano reveals, the mediation that obligatorily precedes civil cases is underway at the Rome Bar. But another cause could soon arrive, from the other marò Girone.

"We wrote a letter to the Navy asking to make amends for the sacrifice suffered by Girone, with friendly tones - explains his lawyer, Enrico Loasses -, but a one-line negative response arrived. Now we are evaluating".

The case of the two marines dates back to 2012 : the two Italian navy riflemen were on board the Italian-flagged oil tanker Enrica Lexie off the coast of Kerala (South-West Indian state) as military protection units when, convinced that they were under pirate attack, they fired in the direction of the Indian fishing boat St. Antony . Two Indian fishermen died, Ajeesh Pink, 20, and Valentine Jelastine, 44.

On January 31, 2022, Latorre and Girone were acquitted by the investigating judge of Rome because their conduct was deemed appropriate to "a situation that suggests a pirate attack".
