The insurance company Unipol allegedly presented to the family members of Luana D'Orazio, the 22-year-old worker who died on May 3, 2021 while he was working on a warping machine in Montemurlo, an offer of compensation of 1 million and 100,000 euros. This was announced by Andrea Rubini, CEO of Gesi Group, the consultancy firm of the victim's family, who responded to the offer judging it to be "incongruous".

"We have written a formal reply to the insurance company, explaining to them - explains Rubini himself - that the financial and non-pecuniary damages are yet to be quantified. We do not believe the situation has stabilized, we will reserve the right to investigate the matter in the coming weeks".

The offer of the company with which the company Orditura Luana had insurance coverage, in which the young Luana worked, comes a few days from the preliminary hearing of the procedure set for next 7 April, in which the three defendants accused of manslaughter will appear. and malicious removal of the precautions of the machinery on which Luana worked: the owner of the company Luana Coppini, her husband Daniele Faggi considered "de facto owner" by the prosecution and the external maintenance technician Mario Cusimano.

"If it is possible - anticipates Rubini regarding the hearing - Luana's mother will be a civil party in the proceeding".

The story of the death of the young worker will be discussed for the first time in a courtroom, almost a year after the tragedy. The Prato prosecutor's office closed the investigation on 5 October. According to the investigations carried out by the consultant appointed by the investigators, engineer Carlo Gini, the warper for the sampling to which the young woman was assigned had the safety devices deactivated. The accident allegedly occurred while the machinery was traveling at high speed, a phase in which the protective shutters would have to remain down.

According to the defense of the suspects, however, this report would be inconsistent: for this reason the lawyers had asked for a new probative incident, which the judge for the preliminary investigations did not grant.

Unipol's compensation offer, which formally arrived at the beginning of this week, consists of 336 thousand euros to be assigned to each of Luana's parents and to her 6-year-old son: the maximum foreseen in the non-pecuniary damage tables. To these amounts must be added 100 thousand euros offered for the brother of the young victim.
