With a Tel Aviv-Bergamo flight, which landed at 10 pm sharp, little Eitan Biran, the only survivor of the Mottarone massacre and the victim of a legal dispute between the families of his mother and father who died in the accident on the cable car together with his brother, is returned to Italy .

"I'm happy to be back home," he told the agent who accompanied him home, in the village of Travacò Siccomario, in the province of Pavia. Thus ends, at least for the moment, a real ordeal for the 6-year-old boy illegally brought to Israel by his maternal grandfather Shmuel Peleg, a country he left when he was little.

The Supreme Court of Tel Aviv, confirming the two decisions of the last few weeks of first and second instance, established that the "normal place of life" of the child "is in Italy where he spent almost his entire life" and that what he it happened in September it was a kidnapping to which the Hague International Convention provides for "zero tolerance" and requires "immediate restitution" to guardians. Therefore, he acknowledged, accepting the request of aunt Aya, the illegitimate abduction of the child by the maternal grandfather.
THE RETURN - With Eitan there were his paternal aunt Aya Biran, named her guardian immediately after the accident, her husband Or Nirko and the two cousins with whom he practically grew up and who, in the aftermath of his kidnapping, have also reached them in the state of the Middle East. Waiting for him in the villa in Travacò Siccomario, next to the one where he lived with his mother and father, were his paternal grandparents, as explained by a spokesman for the Biran family, adding: "After 84 days since he was illegally removed from his home, Eitan will now return to routine, to all medical, therapeutic and educational settings, to his neighborhood friends and school, to the community he grew up in, and to his beloved cat Oliver. "

The lawyers renewed the appeal to "allow Eitan to resume his life as a 6-year-old child." Now, they said, "the spotlight on his private life is turned off" and "a new phase opens up" to allow him "a more serene growth path, even more necessary if we consider the terrible tragedy that involved it".

Yesterday Eitan greeted his maternal grandparents: first Shmuel and then, separately, his ex-wife, grandmother Esther Cohen. The grandfather is the recipient of an international arrest warrant for the charges of kidnapping, abduction and detention of a minor abroad and misappropriation of the passport of his grandson. Peleg's alleged accomplice, the "soldier" of the US contractor agency Blackwater, Gabriel Alon Abutbul, also Israeli and against whom extradition proceedings are underway, was arrested in Cyprus and released on bail.
