A very bad sore throat with high fever. An initial attempt at treatment with drugs, then a trip to the emergency room, then hospitalization.

Everything useless. Loris Comparin, 46 years old from Thiene (Vicenza), four-time karate world champion, died of presumed septicemia . But the case, at the urging of the man's parents, ended up on the table of the Vicenza Prosecutor's Office, which opened a file to verify whether there was any responsibility for the death. The funeral scheduled for tomorrow was cancelled, an autopsy was ordered on the 46-year-old's body.

The facts reconstructed by family members. Comparin was struck by an annoying tonsillitis, with severe throat pain and high fever . On May 14 he went to his GP, who prescribed him some medication. The next day, seeing that the treatment had proven ineffective, he went to the emergency room of Santorso hospital, where he was examined and discharged . Once he returned home, Comparin continued to feel unwell and the next day – May 16 – he returned to hospital again, where the doctors decided to admit him. But the throat infection had spread: « He fought for two weeks – says his father Oscar – remaining between life and death, but despite his physical strength and tenacity he didn't make it , it's terrible to lose a son like that. This is why we decided to ask for further information, we don't want to live with the doubt of not having done everything possible."

The parents want to understand if Loris, father of a little girl, could have been saved . «He was loved by many and everyone remembers him as a man who was always cheerful, smiling and full of life. He was an honest and kind-hearted person. His passion for life was contagious and was reflected in his approach to karate - says his father -. He possessed incredible athletic abilities and, thanks to experience, had developed considerable tactical competence over time. Loris was not only a great athlete, but also a great teacher: he always knew how to convey his expertise with skill and professionalism to his students at the Thiene Sports Center which he managed with great passion."
