The Albanian centers of Gjader and Shengjin must be operational , regardless of what the European Court of Justice decides, which will rule on the matter on February 25. This is the objective of the government , which in order not to suspend the agreements with Tirana and allow the detention of migrants , is ready to act with a decree law .

Minister Tommaso Foti, a leading figure of FdI, spoke about it in an interview: «We will evaluate whether to intervene before the ruling» of the European Court of Justice, which could arrive no earlier than March. Certainly, at a time when glimmers of dialogue between the government and magistrates seem to be opening up, such a move would not be a good omen for a new season of relations with the ANM. And the opposition knows this well, and they are attacking headlong : «Persevering is diabolical - says the PD through Simona Bonafè -, the government must stop this institutional madness that is creating an unprecedented clash between powers and a waste of resources». But Giorgia Meloni's party does not give in and continues briskly: «We are moving forward on the centers in Albania - announces the deputy group leader of FdI in the Chamber, Augusta Montaruli -. The agreement, after all, is a model that is setting a precedent in Europe with the member states, which are adopting the Italian position, starting with the EU president Ursula von der Leyen. The madness was that of the center-left, which for years has not governed uncontrolled immigration. The opposition should resign itself".

However, the initiative does not appear to be destined to be discussed any time soon at a meeting of the Council of Ministers. The idea has certainly been on the table for several days: the intention had already emerged of a specific provision to prevent the transfer of magistrates from the "immigration sections" to the Courts of Appeal (responsible for validating detentions): that is, the same judges who have so far always rejected requests for validation of detentions in Albania. If this were the case, the provision could become the new battleground between the majority and the opposition.
