A 10-year-old girl was rescued off the coast of Lampedusa by the sailing ship Trotamar III. The little girl, originally from Sierra Leone , is believed to be the only survivor of the sinking of a metal boat that occurred three days ago. Rescuers noticed her because she was screaming in the waves . Only a life jacket and an inner tube kept her afloat. The rest, with which she had set out from Sfax, Tunisia, was lost at sea.

44 other people had left with her, including her brother . But during the crossing the boat they were traveling on sank due to a storm. The only survivor was rescued by activists from the NGO Compass Collective, in the area for another intervention, at 3:20 in the morning. The shipwrecked woman arrived in Lampedusa at 6. Once disembarked she was taken to the Lampedusa polyclinic for medical checks. Her health conditions are good but she is in shock.

According to a summary reconstruction by the girl, "we left Sfax 4 or 5 days ago. There were 45 of us. Three days ago, rain, wind and the boat sank. We all ended up in the sea. Two boys stayed near me, then after 2 days I didn't see them anymore, the sea took them away."
