"My hands are clean." Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala said this in his speech at the City Council meeting convened following the investigation into urban planning in the Lombardy capital, where he is under investigation .

"Everything I've done during my two terms as mayor, for which I had the burden and honor," Sala added, " has always been based exclusively on the interests of the citizens. There isn't a single action that can be attributed to my advantage."

In his speech, the mayor then addressed the majority that supports him: "We, and no one else, have the duty to keep the commitments we made to our voters," and "the goal is to combine development and assistance for those in need."

"Not everything we've attempted is perfect, but we've maintained our course," Sala continued. He concluded: "If the majority is there on this basis, I'm there with all the passion, desire, and love for the city I can muster."

Also during the last city council meeting , Councilor for Urban Regeneration Giancarlo Tancredi—whose arrest has been requested by the Prosecutor's Office—announced his resignation: "I have submitted my resignation from the office of Councilor today. I have reached this painful decision because I believe it is the best way to address the judicial developments , but also out of respect for the bodies involved: the mayor, my fellow council members, the citizens of Milan, and the councilors," he explained.
