"He's better. The consequences could have been worse."

The family of Luca Campana speaks, the 31-year-old from Candelo, in the province of Biella, injured by a gunshot fired accidentally after a New Year's Eve party in the Biella area, in Rosazza. A shot coming from the mini-pistol of FdI deputy Emanuele Pozzolo , who stopped by around 1.30am to say hello. Campana, son-in-law of an agent from the escort of the Undersecretary of Justice, Andrea Delmastro, was at the family party, which also included the agents' relatives.

The dinner was over, they had cleared the table and some had already left, no one would have expected such an accident. The idea of celebrating all together, without choosing between work and relatives, seemed good to the escort. So Francesca Delmastro, mayor of Rosazza, had rented the premises of the former kindergarten , now of the Pro Loco, to welcome everyone, starting from her undersecretary brother with the escort.

This is why Campana, a skilled electrician and son-in-law of an agent, was there. «I never touched Pozzolo's weapon. I never even touched it, let alone picked it up from the ground", he defended himself, denying Pozzolo's words and confirming other testimonies according to which it was the FdI deputy who had the gun in his hand.

Now, the family underlines, Campana's first thought "is to return to work and above all to a normal life". «He is quite shaken - his family reports -. He must realize what has happened to him. There was a lot of fear at that moment. Even his wife was shaken by what happened. Now he just wants to forget and leave this misadventure behind him." The manner of the accident proved it and the media outcry surrounding the affair added . So far he has not decided whether to file a lawsuit.

«We have sixty days - explains the lawyer Marco Romanello , who follows him -. We will make a decision when he recovers." However, his family confirms that "fortunately he is better, despite the great scare". Immediately after the accident he was taken to the hospital in Ponderano (Biella). They had removed the bullet from him, which ended up behind his leg, almost at the level of his buttock. Discharged already on January 1st, with a prognosis of about ten days, he is facing convalescence in his home in Candelo , surrounded by his family, committed to making him forget this beginning of the year.
