For the first time in two months, the first doses of vaccine against Covid in seven days (from November 26 to December 2) return to above 230 thousand, thanks to the tightening in force from December 6 with the introduction of the Super green pass and the run of the Omicron variant which also worries Europe.

The queues at the hubs have therefore returned, with a total of 2.7 million inoculations in a week. The 12-19 age group remains the driving force behind vaccination, with over 61,000 first doses in 7 days (33,000 last week), but 38,241 people aged 60 and over were convinced. The boosters from Monday travel at the rate of 350-400 thousand per day.

HYPOTHESIS FOURTH DOSE - But the third dose may not be enough: "A fourth dose of the anti-Covid vaccine is a concrete possibility", explains the coordinator of the CTS, Franco Locatelli.

The third dose, in fact, could generate "a memory response" but it is not yet possible to say how long this protection will last. In fact, the possibility that a herd immunity can be achieved against Covid has disappeared, a booster dose every year, as is done with the flu, cannot be excluded.

THE OBLIGATION - Meanwhile, if it is true that the stubborn audience is thinning (less than two months ago, on 8 October, there were 8.4 million who had not yet had the vaccine), there are still 6.3 million Italians who have no protection from the virus, are not vaccinated and have not recovered from Covid in the last 6 months.

The obligation "is the last resort - explains Locatelli - if the situation worsens but at the moment I don't see the details for this". And he adds: "'The vaccination obligation implies many aspects of a social and political nature and must be left to the political decision-maker. One thing is a situation in countries with low vaccination rates, another the condition of Italy". The Undersecretary of Health, Andrea Costa, summarizes the line: "We were the first to introduce it for health workers and from 15 December it will be extended to law enforcement and school staff. Then we will evaluate the data of the epidemic: we are also ready to other evaluations, but now it goes on like this ".

The government, it is emphasized at Palazzo Chigi, is not thinking of the obligation at the moment, because the strategy is working: it is focusing on the Green pass, to convince the undecided and also to give protection to children, for whom the administrations will start from 16 December .
