He would set his brother on fire to cash in on the life insurance policy that saw him among the beneficiaries.

This is the chilling motive behind the murder of Domenico Martone, 33, whose charred body was found in the countryside of Lettere (Naples) two weeks ago.

The turning point in the investigation came with the arrest, carried out by the carabinieri, of the victim's older brother, Antonio Martone, aged 36.

According to the accusation, he set fire to his brother when he was still alive, then causing him to lose track by leaving the scene of the crime on foot. All this, as mentioned, to obtain insurance reimbursement.

The fact that Martone had a completely quiet private life, devoid of any criminal and police precedent, also guided the research in familiar environments to the victim.

The identity of the body had been quickly ascertained by the military, who had found the victim's car with his green pass inside a few tens of meters from the body.

"The analysis of the public and private video surveillance images of the area - explains the prosecutor of Torre Annunziata, Nunzio Fragliasso - made it possible to reconstruct the last moments of the victim's life and to ascertain the presence at the scene of the crime, at a time compatible with the one in which the murder of the deceased's brother was committed, as well as reconstructing the journey taken by the latter, on foot, following the crime, in moving away from the place of the murder ".

The 36-year-old is accused of murder aggravated by premeditation, abject motives and cruelty, for setting his brother on fire while he was still alive. Now the arrested is locked up in the Neapolitan prison of Poggioreale.
