A fine of 1,032 euros because, after saving a tourist from drowning on September 3, he did not promptly alert the Port Authority as per protocol.

It was imposed on a lifeguard on duty on the beach of Cavallino-Treporti, in the province of Venice. The man, Saverio Amato, 44, a veteran of the safety assistants on the beach of Ca' Savio (in 2021 he received a letter of commendation again for a rescue on the beach), had intervened to provide assistance to a 70-year-old woman who had fallen ill while she was bathing in the sea.

Amato did not expect, however, that having saved a life would expose him to a sanction, for violation - writes the Gazzettino - of a provision of the ordinance on beach safety. According to the report given to him by the military of the Cavallino-Treporti Port Authority, the failure to promptly report to the maritime authority would have precluded the fulfillment of the institutional duties of the Port Authority, subsequently notified by the 118 personnel.

Amato has announced that he will appeal.
