One of the injured in the explosion at a LPG depot on the outskirts of Rome on July 4th has died. The victim, Claudio Ercoli, 67, suffered widespread burns over 55% of his body.

The man was rescued by a Carabinieri officer who carried him from his car, which was already engulfed in flames . He was then transferred to the emergency room aboard a Carabinieri patrol car.

The Rome Prosecutor's Office's investigation file could now include the charge of manslaughter.

Meanwhile, today, at the surgery department of the Policlinico Umberto I, Deputy Inspector Marco Neri and Officer Francesco D'Onofrio, the police officers who suffered the most serious burns, will undergo surgery to reconstruct the burned body parts.

On the investigation front, the Roman prosecutors are evaluating a major consultancy to ascertain first of all whether all safety procedures were respected in the LPG plant .

The explosion, which occurred on July 4th in Via dei Gordiani, injured over forty people, some of them seriously, in addition to the victim.
