The judges of the Lecce Court of Assizes of Appeal confirmed the life sentence for Antonio De Marco, the 23-year-old student from Casarano who confessed to murdering the Lecce referee Daniele De Santis and his girlfriend Eleonora Manta.

The two were massacred on the evening of 21 September 2020 with 79 stab wounds - "because they were happy" - as De Marco himself revealed after his arrest. The double homicide took place in the house in via Montello, in Lecce, where on the same day the two fiancés had gone to live together alone and which they had shared with their killer for months.

The defendant was also placed in solitary confinement for the duration of three years.

Therefore, the request made by the defense to integrate the psychiatric report with a new study to establish the ability to understand and want and, therefore, the imputability of the young man, who is detained in the Lecce prison of Borgo San Nicola and never attended the trial hearings. He has never shown any kind of repentance.

The parents of the two victims were present in the courtroom.

«Today I am a little happier. No one will be able to give me my daughter back, but today Daniele and Eleonora got justice», commented Rossana Carpentieri, Eleonora's mother.
