Yesterday afternoon, in the Abisso Paperino in the municipality of Ormea (CN), a speleologist was injured and left trapped in a cave: today he was reached by a technical team and a paramedic who provided him with first aid and stabilized him.
The man suffered a head injury from a falling rock and is unable to walk independently. A heated tent was set up at the accident site, approximately 40 meters below the surface, where the patient was admitted and air-conditioned. A telephone cable is also installed at the site, allowing communication with the base camp outside. Throughout the night, a total of approximately 50 technicians from the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps from Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino, Alto Adige, Friuli, and Umbria took turns working.
Much of the work was dedicated to clearing three narrow passages that needed to be widened to allow the injured man to pass through. The operations were carried out using explosives by specially trained cave rescuers.
The injured person's condition remains stable at the moment, while we wait to proceed towards the exit.
