Moments of fear this morning in Rome for a mad chase in the streets of the capital. The protagonist is a man driving a crane van who didn't stop when the police stopped. So a chase started, which ended in Piazza Pio XI in the Aurelio district, near the Vatican area. When he was blocked he first threatened the agents, then asked to let him go because " I have to blow up this truck in the Vatican ".

It all started around 7 when some motorists reported, at exit 15 of the Gra, the presence of a man who, on foot, threw objects at cars. The Stradale intervened on the spot but the fugitive managed to get away. He then broke into a car rental and, after stealing a van, drove off. Based on what has been reconstructed, he would have escaped from house arrest where he was on charges of resisting a public official.

The chase lasted many kilometres, two police cars and some parked vehicles were rammed along the way. Nobody was hurt. The 50-year-old was then blocked in Piazza Pio XI by the police and carabinieri. At the time of his arrest he threatened the police with a knife. For him, the prosecutor on duty will ask for the validation of the arrest for resistance, violence and threat to a public official, injuries, aggravated theft, damage and carrying an improper weapon.
