The potato chip company, which is based in Milan, has suffered an attack through a ransomware, a particular type of malware that limits the access of the infected system and prepares the unlocking only after the payment of a ransom.
In this case it is the Conti ransomware, belonging to a recent malware family and already under observation since 2020. The attack, similar to the one that hit the Lazio Region and Siae a short time ago , would not have created significant damage to the San Carlo group and would be claimed on the deep web.
Investigates the department of the Postal Police of Lombardy, while the company has announced that it will not pay the requested ransom.
"Our technicians have found an intrusion in the computer systems - explains the company -. All the security procedures were immediately activated to isolate and contain the threat. At the moment some IT services are only partially functional, but the group's operations it is however guaranteed, from the production, to the distribution, to the sale of our products ".

San Carlo-Unichips, he adds, employs “hundreds of workers and generates millions of euros in turnover. Like all large groups, it is a perfect target for cybercrime.
