Francesco Saverio Garofani "is the secretary of the Supreme Defense Council, the one responsible for national defense. I think perhaps it's best to leave that role to someone else." This was stated by Senate President Ignazio La Russa, speaking at the Italia Direzione Nord event at the Triennale in Milan, regarding the case of the Quirinale advisor who has come under fire for statements attributed to him.
"It was completely clear that Meloni had nothing to do with it," La Russa says. "We're talking about a councilor who, in a fan-filled environment, unintentionally let loose with a whole series of judgments about the government, about Meloni."
"If an advisor to the President of the Republic says this, you can't blame the President for it, but criticism of this advisor is absolutely legitimate," he continued, " especially if he was asked to deny it and said 'it was just gossip between friends.' Had he been a right-winger, today we'd see him hanging from streetlamps in some city or crucified as a Catholic," he added.
"These are his personal wishes, which are unworthy of someone who is the President's Advisor," he concluded.
