The president of the Province of Trento Maurizio Fugatti, after having revoked the previous ordinances, suspended by the TAR, signed an abatement decree for the immediate removal of the Kj1 bear, responsible for the attack on a 43-year-old Frenchman which occurred on 16 July in Naroncolo ( Dro), in Trentino.

With the decree, the president of the Province of Trento orders «that the specimen be immediately killed (culled)» and that «the effectiveness of this provision starts from its publication on the electronic noticeboard of the Autonomous Province of Trento». The Trentino Forestry Corps is in charge of the felling.

The Kj1 bear, we read in the decree, «is a 22-year-old adult female, for whom 9 births have been confirmed, with one birth every 2-3 years» and is an exemplary found to be «responsible in her life of various damages (n=68) and some interactions with humans (n=7), all of which occurred in the summer months, were attributed to it, through genetic analyzes of biological samples collected on the occasion and at the site of the events".

The “human interaction” incidents date back to June 19, 2017, June 6, 2018, August 23, 2022, June 11, 2023, July 13, 2023, July 12, 2024, and July 16, 2024 . The combination of these events, Ispra writes in its opinion, «clearly places the Kj1 bear at the highest levels of danger, due to its history, as also clarified by the Ispra-Muse Report (2021) which considers it to be "high risk". ” individuals with a similar background. For bears deemed "high risk", the Ispra-Muse report (2021) suggests immediate removal." The Institute reports that "there are no other possible solutions other than removing the specimen from the environment, which should be implemented as quickly as possible."

Again according to Ispra, «in 2024 only one young male individual, M90, was removed by culling, therefore the possible removal of Kj1 falls within the number of samplings of individuals indicated as acceptable» by the report drawn up in 2023, in which a ceiling is set of 8 bears that can be killed every year . President Fugatti's decree also cites the investigative report of the Wildlife Service, which reports on some data relating to radiotelemetric monitoring: on 23 July, in fact, Kj1 was captured and, before releasing her into the wild, she was put on a radio collar. According to the Report, the hypotheses of capture, which «requires on average much longer times than culling», and that of the prohibition of the area where the bear moves are impractical: « This area - we read in the Report - it extends over over 11,000 hectares of agricultural, peri-urban and urban territory, in which thousands of people live , characterized by over 250 km of Sat paths and forest roads, with around 100 pedestrian and numerous other vehicular accesses (municipal and provincial roads)" .
