The body of little Mattia Luconi was found , the 8-year-old boy snatched from his mother - the pharmacist of Sardinian origin Silvia Mereu - by the fury of the flood that devastated the province of Ancona in recent days.

The child had been missing for 8 days.

The little body was found in a field   adjacent to the Nevola river, whose flood overwhelmed the baby with his mother, Silvia Mereu, originally from Urzulei , managed to escape.

To give the alarm to the carabinieri was the employee of a country kindergarten , who noticed the body about 200 meters from the river bed.

The remains, covered by mud, are in an advanced state of decomposition . An autopsy and DNA examination will therefore be required for definitive identification.

"By now the hopes are over . I hoped they would not find him anymore" , the first words - heartbroken - of his father Tiziano, at the news.

"I know that finding him alive is impossible but at least I want a grave to cry on" , said, shortly before the discovery, the mother of the child, Silvia Mereu.

The land where the body was found is located in Passo Ripe di Trecastelli, about 13 km away from Farneto , the town of Castelleone di Susa where on the evening of September 15 the baby was swept away by the flood.
