Today, the general strike called by grassroots unions and the CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour) in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla , was deemed "illegitimate" by the Guarantor for lack of notice. But CGIL Secretary Maurizio Landini confirmed the strike ("it's legitimate, we're ready to challenge it"), while Prime Minister Meloni slammed it. "A long weekend and a revolution don't go together."

Meanwhile, consular visits to Israel are expected to begin today for the 40 Italians detained by the Flotilla. The activists on the Gaza mission were detained and taken to prison, pending decisions on their repatriation.
