In Trentino alone, 13 accidents at work with fatal consequences were recorded in 2021. The latest occurred in Arco, in the province of Trento, in the "Eremo" nursing home where a worker lost his life while taking care of some jobs in the elevator shaft.

The 30-year-old Nicolae Catalan, of Romanian nationality, was found by his colleagues at the bottom of the elevator shaft, he was unconscious, perhaps struck by an electric shock, perhaps crushed by an illness were the first hypotheses.

From the investigations and findings carried out by the police and the provincial labor inspectorate, he was crushed by the counterweight of the lift. While he was fixing the grounding of the new system, one of his collaborators would have activated the button, perhaps to recover some material upstairs. In a few moments the lift started working and so the counterweight, which went down the opposite path, crushed the victim.
