Tragedy struck in Marina di Pietrasanta (Lucca), where 73-year-old entrepreneur Fabrizio Toninelli, a historic name in Italian IT, lost his life yesterday morning.
Toninelli, founder with Mino Zucchetti of the well-known software house "Zucchetti Spa," was on vacation in Versilia with his family: yesterday morning, while he was swimming, he was noticed floating by other swimmers who raised the alarm, near the Bagno Internazionale.
Lifeguards intervened to rescue him, using their lifeguards' rafts to retrieve him and begin resuscitation. Once they reached shore, they continued operations with the help of the medics present, but there was nothing they could do for Toninelli. The doctor who arrived could only pronounce him dead, and Coast Guard personnel were tasked with carrying out the usual checks.
