After a long illness, Angelo Chessa, head of orthopedics and son of Ugo, commander of the Moby Prince ferry , which burnt off Livorno in 1991 after colliding with the oil tanker Agip Abruzzo , died at the age of 56 .

Together with his brother Luchino, Angelo fought for years, through a committee, in Parliament and in the courtrooms to shed light on the tragedy that cost the lives of 140 people with only one survivor : Alessio Bertrand, driver of the ferry that left at 10pm. towards Olbia.

"A special person, a real strength. We will carry on this battle to the end even in his memory", says to Ansa Luchino, medical director of the Aou of Cagliari .
In the disaster Luchino and Angelo Chessa also lost their mother, Maria Giulia Ghezzano. With the involvement of the other relatives of the victims, the two brothers stood in the front row to understand what really happened that night . For "years - the words of the mayor of Livorno Luca Salvetti - together with his brother Luchino he had fought to identify the truth about the Moby Prince stake that took place on the night of 10 April 1991 in front of the port of Livorno, and to keep his father's reputation high . Together with the associations he made a fundamental contribution to reopen the investigations and activate the parliamentary commissions that must shed light on the tragedy and on the many gaps that emerged in the reconstruction of the accident and on the open questions. The disappearance of Angelo Chessa will be a further stimulus for the 'Administration so as not to forget, neither now nor ever and to stand by the families of the Moby victims in pursuing justice and truth ".

The work of a parliamentary commission , chaired by the Sardinian senator Silvio Lai, was fundamental in the search for this truth: the clash, it emerged, was not caused by fog or by the imprudence of a commander. Now there is another commission of inquiry in progress.
