The governor of Alto Adige Arno Kompatscher and his SVP are losing support, but remain in the saddle after the elections for the renewal of the provincial council.
According to the definitive data, the Volkspartei drops to 34.5% (-7.4%) and to 13 councilors (15). The second and third forces in the provincial council are Team K (11.1%) and Süd-Tiroler Freiheit (10.9%), both with 4 councillors.
At the foot of the podium are the Greens (9%, 3 councillors), while Fratelli d'Italia flies and becomes the leading Italian-speaking force with 6% of the vote and 2 councillors. In 2018 it stopped at 1.7%.
The SVP's coalition partner, the League, instead drops to 3% and will only have one representative. Five years ago there were 4 with 11.1%.
As regards the personal result, the outgoing president loses almost 9,400 votes compared to 2018, but still confirms himself as Kaiser of preferences with 57,776. SVP secretary Philipp Achammer halved his votes, stopping at 16,563 preferences (-16,259). Surprisingly, the new entry Hubert Messner, retired head physician and brother of the King of the Eight Thousand Reinhold, occupies second position on the SVP list with 30,422 preferences.
The issue of the new council is difficult to unravel, because SVP, FDI and Lega together stop at 16 councillors, to reach the indispensable 18, the Freiheitlichen would be needed. An alternative could be the Greens and Team K who with 20 councilors, an alliance currently meets with skepticism from the Volkspartei.
