Eight-year-old boy killed at home in Salento, mother's body found at sea

The first discovery was made at sea: the body of Najoua Minniti, 35. A few hours later, in the evening, the second tragic discovery was made: 8-year-old Elia was found dead in the house in Calimera, in the province of Lecce, where the woman lived with her son.

The mother's body was discovered that afternoon in Torre dell'Orso, about twenty kilometers from the town. Her ex-husband had raised the alarm, concerned that the woman had not taken her child to school that morning. After the missing person was reported, a search began, which led to the discovery of both bodies.

The child's body was found in the bedroom and appears to have several injuries. The Carabinieri are investigating the incident, working to reconstruct the mother and son's final hours.

The Calimera community is in shock over the tragedy.
