For twelve years, almost as long as her relationship lasted, a woman was, unknowingly, the target of verbal abuse and cyberbullying by dozens of unknown men. These men were incited by her ex-partner, a 55-year-old factory worker. She collected on Facebook and Telegram, using fake names and groups created specifically for this purpose.
The fifty-year-old, under investigation by the Ivrea prosecutor's office for revenge porn and abuse, has pleaded guilty to a two-year sentence. He paid his ex-wife a €5,000 check "as compensation." The sentence was suspended, contingent on him attending a program for abusive men. "Today I live with another woman," he told the Carabinieri.
The legal case is reported by La Stampa. The woman found out like this: "He had gone out. He had forgotten his cell phone," the newspaper reports. " I suspected he was cheating on me, and I looked at the chats. I opened one and saw the figure of a masked man. The number wasn't registered. I opened the conversations. There was me naked. Dozens of intimate photos and videos of me. I had given him some, at his request. But as for others, I didn't even know he had taken them. I thought it couldn't be possible. I called a friend. The next day she took me to the police."
Now she's considering leaving her hometown , where she fears someone might recognize her: at least sixty names and surnames of identified users have been identified. Psychologists are teaching her not to feel guilty. "It will be a long journey," explains the woman's lawyer, Silvia Bregliano. "The damages suffered to date are incalculable and serious. A civil trial will be needed to quantify everything my client has suffered and continues to suffer."
