A relaxing day with her boyfriend on the Sorrento Coast, then the return journey on the Circumvesuviana train, a blackout of memories and a nightmarish night. This is the story of an 18-year-old woman of Ukrainian origin who reported to police that she was kidnapped on the night between Friday and Saturday by eight immigrants, then drugged and abused by at least two of them in an apartment not far from Naples Central Station . Her version is being examined by investigators who are combing the video surveillance cameras in the station area for evidence and are also searching for witnesses who were on the train the young woman rode. This is where her story begins.
The girl, who lives in Pozzuoli with her mother, had just returned from a day out with her boyfriend on the Sorrento Peninsula. "We ate there," she told investigators, "then in the late afternoon we took the Circumvesuviana train. He got off before Naples, and from there I don't remember anything. When I regained consciousness, I found myself in an apartment near Via Bologna, as I discovered when they let me go and I went out into the street just before dawn." The alarm was raised by the 18-year-old's mother, who called the police, reporting that her daughter had taken refuge in the bathrooms of a fast food restaurant near the station after a nightmarish night at the mercy of eight men, two of whom had allegedly abused her after injecting her with a narcotic.
She added that her daughter had told her she had taken drugs and been sexually assaulted, having no recollection of how she ended up in that apartment. When the young woman went to the police station to file a complaint, she was in shock and had signs of violence on her body. At Cardarelli Hospital—where she was taken by 118 ambulance—doctors gave her a thirty-day prognosis, placing her on the "female program" for women victims of sexual abuse, pending the results of further diagnostic tests. The investigation, conducted by the specialized section of the Flying Squad of the Naples Police Headquarters, coordinated by prosecutors from the Vulnerable Groups section of the Prosecutor's Office, will shed light on the lapse in memory from those nightmarish hours.
