Promptly at noon, after being admitted to hospital and discharged from the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic, where he underwent surgery for lung adenocarcinoma, Pope Leo XIV appeared from the window of the Apostolic Palace in St. Peter's Square to recite the Sunday Angelus. The pontiff was greeted with a resounding applause from the crowd, who greeted him with the customary "Happy Sunday."
After the prayer, the Holy Father thanked "all those who prayed for me," extending a special thought to the doctors at the Gemelli Polyclinic: "This experience," he added, "has made me feel close to those who are going through illness. Now, as you know, I will gradually resume my work."
