A new turning point in the case of Sara Pedri, the gynecologist who passed away in Trento on 4 March and possibly suicidal, as claimed by her family, due to the condition of severe work stress to which she was subjected.

The prosecutor of Trento has entered in the register of suspects, for the crime of maltreatment at work, the former head physician Saverio Tateo and the deputy Liliana Mereu of the obstetrics ward of the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento. The newspaper Il Messaggero writes it.

Last August the carabinieri of the Nas had hypothesized the crime of ill-treatment and had asked, with an information to the Trento Public Prosecutor's Office, to register the former primary and the deputy in the register of suspects.

The two professionals were assigned to another position on 12 July after the decision of the internal commission set up by the Trento health authority. 14 people, including doctors and nurses, including Sara Pedri, would have suffered demotion and mistreatment at work.

THE RECONSTRUCTION - The internal commission of the health company had carried out 110 hearings, finding "objective facts and a critical situation in the ward". The former primary, through his lawyers, instead spoke of "lies" and "allegations" and of a smear campaign against him.

In the gynecology department of the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento, as reported by some professionals who worked there and by Sara Pedri's family, the climate for the staff would not have been easy, with alleged pressures and humiliations. A climate - according to the Pedri family - perhaps at the origin of the woman's disappearance.

The inspectors sent to the department by the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza also worked on the case. After viewing all the department's documentation, from attendance registers to medical records, they described the "high quality of care". On the other hand, the opinion expressed by the staff in the hearings in which "an oppressive attitude" on the part of the head physician towards other doctors is very different.

The inspectors had also hinted at episodes of bullying and obstruction at work, with insults to colleagues in front of patients and their exclusion from the operating room with "mortifying purposes".
