The short "Stop the massacre immediately" , promoted by Rete Asilo, ended on the beach of Steccato di Cutro, a few hundred meters from the site of the tragic shipwreck. Here the mayors of numerous municipalities have placed a wreath and flowers along the stretch of beach, wearing a white arm band as a sign of mourning for the dead children.

At least 5 thousand people took part, dozens of associations, parties, trade unions and movements joined to protest against the deaths of migrants at sea after the shipwreck in the waters off Steccato di Cutro.

In front of the approximately 5,000 people, a cross made with the wood of the boat that crashed on a shoal .

At the start of the procession there was also an argument with a lady who from a balcony railed against the demonstrators, some of whom responded by singing Bella ciao.

Among the participants also the former mayor of Riace Domenico "Mimmo" Lucano. “This cross is the symbol of suffering today. It's instinctive to be here. There is a small community in Riace that has been shocked. Sometimes I think about it and I am ashamed of being a western citizen . When there are these emergency phases, the Calabrian communities are shaken and the spirit of solidarity that the government does not demonstrate immediately prevails. They have been raging for years and years, attempts have been made to blame and criminalize NGOs, rescue workers, those involved in solidarity. For them the paradigm is the opposite. In Riace there wasn't a utopia it was the instinct for normality. When there are emergencies, landings, it is a normal fact. It is not normal to prevaricate or say that the responsibility lies with one or another and that time becomes lethal as it happened," he said.

In the meantime , three other victims were recovered today: two girls, one aged 5-6, the other aged between 7 and 10, and an adult. Thus 76 bodies have been recovered so far .
