Two ultralights collided today near Guidonia Montecelio, a town on the outskirts of Rome.

According to initial information, the accident - which occurred this morning around 11 - would have involved two Siai Marchetti 208 military aircraft , belonging to the 60th Wing of the Italian Air Force, and were used for training.

The pilots on board died in the crash. The victims are Lieutenant Colonel Giuseppe Cipriano, 47 years old originally from Taranto, and Major Marco Meneghello, 46 years old from Legnago . One of the two aircraft ended up among the buildings in via della Longarina, the other managed to land on via delle Margherite avoiding the houses and crashing into a car. There were no other injuries or people involved. Police, carabinieri and 118 personnel are intervening on the spot. The prosecutor on duty at the Tivoli prosecutor's office is carrying out an inspection in the area of the tragedy. The prosecutor will launch an investigation to reconstruct what happened.
