Attack this morning at dawn on the post office of San Marco in Lamis , in the province of Foggia .
A gang of criminals, made up of at least 5 people, used a bulldozer to uproot the safe and then, to slow down the arrival of the police, set fire to an SUV and blocked road 272 , which connects San Marco in Lamis to San Giovanni Round, with a chain tied to two guardrails.
«This is a terrible event - commented the mayor of San Marco in Lamis, Michele Merla - The damage is enormous. The post office, the only one in the town, could remain unusable for months. Today was pension collection day. We are especially dismayed for the elderly population. A robbery carried out with great care and this worries us greatly because it means that the criminal escalation is starting to be important."
The police and forensics are operating on site . The video surveillance cameras are also being examined by investigators.
