At the moment there are no hypotheses of crime or suspects , but the Rome Prosecutor's Office has opened a file on the Messina Strait Bridge project after the complaint presented by the Avs deputy, Angelo Bonelli, by the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, and by Nicola Fratoianni, secretary of the Italian Left.

The complaint, consisting of 9 pages, was filed in Piazzale Clodio on February 1st and concerns "the design and construction activity " of the infrastructure.

Transport Minister Matteo Salvini 's comment was immediate: the Strait Bridge - he said - "is a right of millions of Italians and only in Italy is the left able to say no to public works ". Salvini also made it a point to reiterate that in any case the Bridge will be built "100%".

THE DOCUMENTS – In the complaint the parliamentarians ask the prosecutors to clarify why Società Stretto di Messina SpA (SdM SpA) «decided not to make public documents fundamental to the extent of the project and the procedures». And it is stated that the company "has repeatedly denied requests to provide" to the complainants "both the project update report and the negotiation document, despite a member of the scientific committee having publicly stated that he had made the aforementioned report public ». Refusal which, they write, prevents the exercise of a right and an action of control and verification.

Again, again in the complaint, it is recalled that on 16 January the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport responded to a question time presented to the environment commission, communicating that: «The Stretto di Messina company and the Eurolink consortium signed an agreement on 29 September 2023 prodromal negotiation on the basis of which the General Contractor prepared, among other things, the integration report to the original definitive project including the particular reference to environmental compatibility and the further requirements to be developed in the project". The parliamentarians add that «the decree was converted into law and published in the Official Journal on 30 May 2023 but the SdM SpA company signed the negotiating act on 29 September, while the announcement of the delivery of the report on the project by the Consortium Eurolink took place on 30 September 2023. In practice , only a few hours will pass between the signing of the negotiating document and the delivery of the project update report . How is it possible, one wonders, that the updating of a project for such an impressive structure never built in the world was carried out in just a few hours? The delivery of the report on 30 September 2023 was also confirmed by a press note from the Webuild group", states the complaint.
