Bribes to ensure funeral services and to show relatives the bodies of patients who tested positive for Covid, false certificates of illness for doctors and patients and theft of cleaning and sanitary material which was then resold.

This is what emerged from an investigation by the carabinieri inside the hospital of Saronno, in the province of Varese, which led to 10 precautionary measures, including three arrests, one of which in prison . The investigations by the carabinieri of the Saronno company's operational unit and coordinated by the Busto Arsizio prosecutor's office were triggered by an employee's report to the health management in 2020 about a sum of money that would have been given to an employee to the morgue now in prison, by a local undertaker. From there began the telephone and video interceptions and the collection of testimonies from hospital employees.

For the military , there are at least four funeral home owners who gave money to the morgue workers to push the relatives of the deceased to choose the company and also to show the family members the dead who tested positive for Covid , thus violating the anti-contagion rules then in force.

During the investigation, the carabinieri then opened other lines. The first concerns two Ats doctors accused of providing false certificates of illness, one for the benefit of the other (so that he could help him in his study) and, upon request, to patients. They were banned from practicing their profession for one year. The second concerns two other employees of the facility discovered to steal medical equipment owned by the hospital, and then resell it. The hypotheses of crime, for various reasons, are corruption, embezzlement, theft, fraud and ideological falsehood .
