Brianza: he hits his wife with a hammer then sets himself on fire

He hit his wife with a hammer, then set himself on fire.

The drama was staged in Varedo, Brianza. The man, 85, died from severe burns, the woman, 79, is in serious condition.

It all happened yesterday afternoon in the elderly people's home. Perhaps they argued and he grabbed a hammer, lunging at his wife and hitting her on the head. Then he grabbed a petrol can, left the house and reached the small garden in front of the condominium. He doused himself with fuel and started the flames. The employee of a nearby company raised the alarm.

Firefighters and rescuers took care of the man while the carabinieri entered the apartment where they found the woman, who was then transferred to San Gerardo in Monza. He, however, did not survive the serious injuries.
