She was born sixteen years ago with a congenital deformity of her mouth, which prevented her from opening it.
Now, thanks to an exceptional maxillofacial surgery at the San Marco hospital in Catania, Aurora (invented name) can begin a new life made of words, smiles, solid foods and everything she had to give up during her life. life.
The form of genetic Nager syndrome that Aurora has suffered from since birth is among the rarest in the world, only six in all of Italy. In this case, a bone mass had already developed in the fetus which had fused the jaw to the skull, not allowing the articulation necessary to open the mouth.
The success of the operation, which lasted approximately ten hours, was the result of multidisciplinary work between the various company teams. In addition to the maxillofacial surgeons, there were twenty colleagues in the operating room who were anesthetist surgeons from the resuscitation and thoracic surgery rooms.

Rodolico - San Marco" and Massimo Robiony, director of the maxillofacial clinic of the university hospital of Udine and his associate professor Salvatore Sembronio.
