The body of 26-year-old Gabriella Querino, missing since Saturday morning when the small boat she was traveling in with her husband Sean Michieli collided with a water taxi in the Tessera Canal, was found this morning.

Confirmation that it was her came from Venice Mayor Simone Venturini: "A tragic event that has kept our entire city in suspense these past few days has come to a most painful end," he wrote on social media.

On the investigative front – the taxi driver is under investigation in the open proceedings for nautical homicide – the Venice Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered an autopsy on Michieli's body , who was in critical condition after the crash and later died in hospital.

A postmortem examination will serve to acquire useful information on the dynamics of the accident, which have not yet been clarified.

For the same reason, investigators have ordered a series of tests on the sunken boat. These tests will attempt to determine the speed of the vehicles, their direction of travel, and how the impact occurred.
